SC defers hearing on Jagir Kaur
bail case till Monday

Onkar Singh in New Delhi

The Supreme Court on Tuesday deferred the hearing of the Central Bureau of Investigation's petition seeking cancellation Bibi Jagir Kaur's bail in the case pertaining to the death of her daughter Harpreet Kaur till Monday.

Justice D P Mahapatra and Justice S R Patil accepted the argument of Kaur's counsel Jaspal Singh, an ex-high court judge, that the defence had little time to prepare its case since the last time the accused was summoned to appear before the court on December 24.

The court has asked the defence counsel to submit its arguments in the next three days.

Notably, the SC refused to entertain a petition by Kamaljit Singh seeking cancellation of Kaur's bail.

Kamaljit claims to have secretly married Harpreet Kaur. Jagir Kaur is said to have opposed the alliance.
