21 terrorist outfits banned in UK

As many as 21 terrorist organisations, including the Babbar Khalsa, International Sikh Youth Federation, Harkat-ul-Mujahideen, Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Tayiba, Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam and Al Qaida have been banned in the United Kingdom under the new Terrorism Act 2000.

Home Secretary Jack Straw announced this in the House of Commons in London on Wednesday.

"I am entirely satisfied that the organisations banned are concerned in terrorism as set out in Section 3 (5) of the Act and have, after careful consideration, decided to exercise my discretion to proscribe them," Straw said.

The draft order will go before both the Houses of Parliament along with the Home Secretary's recommendations.
