Andhra SI shot dead by Naxals

In a daredevil operation, Naxalites of the outlawed Peoples War Group on Sunday shot dead a police sub inspector while he was conducting an inquest at Amangal town, about 80 km from Mahboobnagar, police said.

Sub-inspector Hanumanthu Reddy was shot from point blank range by four armed Naxals who scared away by-standers by opening fire in the air before taking on Reddy, police said.

Reddy, attached to Amangal police station, and a police constable reached the spot to inquire about an accident in which two persons had died earlier in the day.

While the inquest was going on along with two constables who had reached the spot in advance, four persons fired in the air resulting in the mob witnessing the inquiry fled the scene.

Subsequently, the Naxals pumped bullets on Reddy from point blank range killing him on the spot, police said, adding the three constables escaped unhurt.

Police said they suspect the involvement of Kalwakurthi dalam of the PWG behind the incident.
