Kutch region rocked by 15 more aftershocks

As many as 15 more aftershocks rocked the quake-ravaged Kutch region in Gujarat since Thursday with one of them measuring 4.8 on the Richter Scale, the Indian Meteorology Department said in New Delhi Friday.

The tremors with magnitude ranging between 3.0 and 4.8 were felt in the area since 1021 hrs Thursday, taking to 340 the total number of aftershocks measuring more than 3 on the Richter Scale since the January 26 earthquake.

While the tremor with 4.8 magnitude occurred at 1535 hrs Thursday the latest aftershock, measuring 3.6, was recorded at 1418 hrs Friday.

The Kutch area has been convulsed by frequent aftershocks in the past few days after being jolted by a 5.3 magnitude quake on February 8, in which 40 people were injured as they scurried out of their houses in panic in Ahmedabad and other places.
