Music maestros join hands to help quake victims

H S Rao in London

Some of the biggest names in Indian classical music, including sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and flutist Hariprasad Chaurasia, have joined hands with top British musicians for a concert to raise funds for the Gujarat earthquake victims.

The concert, featuring an impressive line-up of world-class musicians from India and the UK, will be held here on February 18.

Amjad Ali Khan will be accompanied by his sons Amaan and Ayaan Ali Bangash and Chaurasia by his disciple Rupak Kulkarni.

Chaurasia will also be joined by jazz guitar legend John McLaughlin, whose deep understanding of Indian music and pioneering collaborations with Indian musicians is well known.

The Michael Nyman band will open the evening.

As a special treat for music lovers, the concert at the Royal Festival Hall will also include a rare appearance by Praful Dave, Gujarat's leading folk singer.
