Mild quake scares Bhachau, Ahmedabad

A fresh quake of moderate intensity hit Kutch in Gujarat, which is already reeling from the effects of the killer Republic Day earthquake, on Saturday morning.

The tremor, with a magnitude of 5 on the Richter Scale, was centred 25 km north of Bhachau in Kutch district, the Indian Meteorological Department said in New Delhi.

The epicentre was recorded at latitude 23.5 north and longitude 70.4 east.

Bhachau is one of the worst quake-hit areas in the state.

Meanwhile, a report from Ahmedabad said the city experienced a mild tremor lasting one or two seconds on Saturday morning.

Residents of many areas ran out of their houses in panic.
