Former divisional commissioner remanded
in BEd degree scam case: PTI

A former divisional commissioner has been remanded to judicial custody by a special vigilance court in Patna, in connection with the fake BEd degree scam case.

Chintu Nayak, former divisional commissioner of Darbhanga, surrendered before the court of special vigilance judge Jitendra Mohan Sharma on Friday as the Supreme Court passed an order in September to complete investigations into the case at the earliest.

Nayak has been evading appearance before the court after issuance of an arrest warrant against him.

The court has fixed February 5 as the next date of hearing of his bail application. He will be lodged in judicial custody in Beur Adarsh jail on the outskirts of the state capital.

There are 41 accused in the case and many, including former Bihar minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal legislator Jaiprakash Narayan Yadav are evading warrants in the case.

The Supreme Court had earlier rejected their anticipatory bail petitions.
