Hurriyat team to visit Gujarat

Onkar Singh in New Delhi

Former chairman of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Mirwaiz Omar Farooq, Friday said an APHC team would soon visit the quake-ravaged districts of Kutch in Gujarat.

"We have been thinking of providing relief in the quake-affected areas. We can understand the feeling of those who have lost their kith and kin in the earthquake...we know the pain of losing a dear one."

Abdul Ghani Butt, the Hurriyat chairman, will lead the team.

"We will go to as many places as possible to share the grief of the people of Gujarat. Our trip is purely on human grounds and has nothing to do with politics," said the Mirwaiz.

He said the Hurriyat is in touch with some NGOs to find out the requirements of the quake-affected people. "We can certainly provide them with some necessary material," he added.

However, he did not specify which places in Gujarat the Hurriyat team would travel to.
