Dara Singh's trial deferred to March 1: PTI

The hearing, which commenced on Thursday and was to continue till February 8, will now be held from March 1 to 5, with a day's break on March 4.

The decision to defer the hearing was taken after the defence counsel sought more time from the court to study documents provided to them by the Central Bureau of Investigation counsel on Friday.

CBI counsel K Sudhakar, as per a court directive, had furnished a list of chargesheet witnesses examined by the three investigating agencies -- CBI, crime branch of police and state police -- and copies of statements made by them before these agencies.

The defence lawyers, represented by Shyamananda Mohapatra, while acknowledging that they had received the documents, said that they required more time to study them.

All the 14 chargesheeted in the case, including Dara Singh, were present in court.

The court also directed Dara Singh to be taken back to the Baripada circle jail, where he was lodged following postponement of the hearing.
