39 miners trapped in Dhanbad

Our Correspondent in Patna

Thirty-nine miners of Bharat Cooking Coal Limited, including a supervisor, were trapped in the Bagdigi mine in Dhanbad district, in the newly created Jharkhand state on Friday.

They were trapped after a water storage tank nearby burst.

Forty-five 45 workers were at work when the tank burst.

Senior officials have rushed to the spot. Rescue operations are underway.

The last such major incident had occurred on September 30, 1995, at Ghasalitand in Dhanbad district.
