Indo-Pak foreign secretaries come together despite tensions

V Mohan Narayan in Kathmandu

Tensions between the two countries did not come in the way of foreign secretaries of India and Pakistan coming together in Kathmandu on Monday.

Chokila Iyer and Inamul Haq broke bread at a quite dinner on Sunday night and had coffee together on Monday.

"They were talking and joking. They were not fighting as you would like to believe. They are mature persons," SAARC spokesman Pushkar Rajbhandhari told reporters.

The two officials met even as speculation mounted whether Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and President Pervez Musharraf will meet in Kathmandu during the summit beginning January four so also the Foreign Ministers Jaswant Singh and Abdul Sattar.
