India welcomes US branding of LeT,
JeM as terrorist organisations

India on Thursday welcomed the US decision to designate Lashkar-e-Tayiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed as terrorist outfits for their involvement in the attacks on Parliament and the Jammu and Kashmir assembly building, saying it is a "positive development."

"As far as Pakistan is concerned, India is yet to see meaningful action by it against terrorist groups operating from its soil," an external affairs ministry spokesperson said.

The spokesperson said: "There is a great deal Pakistan needs to do to drive a stake through the heart of terrorism. Pakistan is the epicentre of terrorism in our region."

Asked about the arrest of JeM chief Maulana Masood Azhar in Pakistan, she was dismissive of the reported move, saying he was receiving visitors and lines for communications were open for people to contact him.

There was no evidence to suggest that Islamabad had taken meaningful action on India's demands for arresting the leadership of LeT and JeM, banning the outfits and freezing their assets, she said.
