Jaish denies hand in attack

The Pakistan-based terrorist outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed denied on Monday that its members took part in the attack on Parliament House in New Delhi on Thursday.

Reacting for the first time after the attack, the group's founder leader, Maulana Masood Azhar, said the attack was not carried out by Islamic militants as they had nothing to gain from it.

Quoting reports that mounds of explosives were brought for use in the attack, he said it was impossible for militants to transport such a huge quantity of explosives.

Azhar, a Pakistani national who was released from an Indian prison after the 1999 hijack of Indian Airlines Flight IC-814, accused India of making false allegations.

On India's demand to ban the JeM and the Lashkar-e-Tayiba, Azhar said, "We are not promoting terrorism against any country. Pakistan arrested those who took part in peaceful religious demonstrations in support of the Taliban. When such was the case, how can the Pakistan government allow attacks on another country?"
