Laloo Yadav secures bail in one case,
but is detained under another

However, hours after securing bail from the Supreme Court, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief and former Bihar chief minister Jagannath Mishra were remanded to 14 days judicial custody by designated CBI judge P R Das in yet another case of the multicrore scam, in Ranchi.

Earlier, accepting Yadav's bail application, a division bench comprising Justice K T Thomas and Justice S N Phukan directed him to execute a personal bond of Rs 100,000 and a surety of the same amount before the special court at Ranchi.

Emerging out of the designated CBI court of S K Mishra in Patna after recording his statement in a disproportionate assets case, which remained inconclusive for the second consecutive day on Friday, a beaming Laloo told reporters, ''I welcome the SC ruling giving respite to me'' before being escorted to the Beur model jail amid tight security.

The Rashtriya Janata Dal president's lawyer C R Sinha told PTI here that there was no need for his client to go to Ranchi to sign the bail bond and surety papers. He can be released by the jail authorities in Ranchi upon verifying his signature, Sinha said.

"We shall submit the bail bond at Ranchi after getting the relevant papers duly filled in by Yadav to secure his release as soon as we get the copy of the judgement," he said.

The authorities in Ranchi may be moved on Saturday, Sinha added.
