Firing yet another salvo at the Vajpayee government, the Congress on Monday demanded that the recall of Jharkhand Governor Prabhat Kumar if the Central bureau of Investigation found prima facie evidence of corruption against him.
"The home ministry should seek an explanation from the Jharkhand governor on this matter," said party spokesman S Jaipal Reddy.
Recent media reports had said that Flex Industries chairman Ashok Chaturvedi had funded three parties thrown by the Jharkhand governor when he was the Union cabinet secretary.
Prabhat Kumar was an appointee of the BJP government.
Chaturvedi was recently arrested in a corruption case.
"In the short duration of its rule, ever since the Tehelka expose, the National Democratic Alliance government has been attracting more scandals than all the previous governments put together. We are going to bring up this issue in both houses of Parliament," Reddy said.
He promised that the Congress would keep up the pressure on the issue of George Fernandes' re-induction as defence minister.
Reddy pointed out that Fernandes had also been indicted in the Comptroller and Auditor General's recent report (on defence deals).
Asked to give his party's views on the formation of the core group for the solution of the Kashmir issue, Reddy said, "The Congress has always been for talks between the militants in the Kashmir valley and the government."
However, "the problem in the Kashmir valley is not just one of law and order. It needs a political solution," Reddy said.
