No violation of SC orders on Ayodhya issue to be allowed: Govt

The government on Friday asserted no violation of Supreme Court directive to maintain the status quo at the disputed site in Ayodhya would be allowed.

"Government is committed to scrupulously adhering the Supreme Court directive to maintain the status quo at the disputed site," Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs O Rajagopal said in the Rajya Sabha.

He was responding to leader of opposition Manmohan Singh who wanted the government to clarify whether five ministers of the Vajpayee government had cheered Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Ashok Singhal's declaration that the construction of Ram temple would commence at Ayodhya on March 12.

Rajagopal said the five ministers had already denied of any such endorsement and the report was 'wrong'.

He said Union Home Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani had clarified earlier in the House that no violation of the Apex Court's directive would be allowed.
