'Jailed' Laloo Yadav to be flown to Patna

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Laloo Prasad Yadav, currently under judicial custody at the Kanke-based camp jail in connection with a fodder scam case, will be flown to Patna later on Monday, Jharkhand Home secretary Sushma Singh said.

Yadav is being taken to Patna in a Bihar government plane as he has to be produced before a CBI court there in connection with a disproportionate assets case on December 6, the home secretary said.

The designated CBI court of H C Mishra had allowed Yadav to be taken to Patna on Saturday after hearing a petition of the superintendent of Kanke camp jail, but had also directed the authorities to ensure production of the RJD chief in his court in Ranchi again on December 10 in connection with the fodder scam case.

Meanwhile, reports from Patna say the newly-constructed mahila (women's) ward of Beur jail is being spruced up under the supervision of the district magistrate and superintendent of police for Laloo's stay in judicial custody there.

One platoon each of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), the District Armed Police (DAP) and commando force of the Bihar Military Police (BMP) would be deployed around the ward for Laloo's security, official sources said.

Security rules would be strictly followed to prevent criminals and other undertrials lodged in Beur jail from making any attempt to meet Laloo, they said.
