Harrison died to Hare Krishna prayers: Report

Beatles lead guitarist, lyricist and singer George Harrison died at a friend's house in Los Angeles reportedly amid songs, chants and prayers of Hare Rama Hare Krishna devotees.

Harrison had been close to the International Society of Krishna Consciousness since the 1960s.

A news agency quoted Gauda Chandra of the ISKCON as saying, "He had some close friends that he has known since the 1960s with him at the end. There was chanting and praying and he was at peace."

The ISKCON in a statement said, "During his last days, Krishna devotees were by his side and he left his body to the sounds of the Hare Krishna Mantra."

"George Harrison probably did more than any single popular cultural figure during these past few decades to spread spiritual consciousness around the world," it added.
