'Stressed' CRPF jawan kills two colleagues

Mukhtar Ahmad In Srinagar

In a freak incident, a Central Reserve Police Force sentry manning a bunker at Sanat Nagar in Srinagar shot dead two of his colleagues and injured another late Sunday night.

The sentry later shot himself and had to be shifted to a hospital in critical condition.

Police sources said the sentry opened fire on a party of the CRPF inside the battalion headquarter.

The dead have been identified as head constable Darinder Singh and constable Sudh Nath Singh.

Constable Major Singh, who was seriously wounded in the firing, was also shifted to the hospital.

Senior paramilitary officials have rushed to the spot to assess the situation.

Stress and tension resulting from war-fatigue was responsible for such incidents, according to senior officials of the CRPF.
