Bihar flood situation improves further

The flood situation in Bihar improved further on Thursday with major rivers like the Ganga, Kosi, Gandak and Bagmati continuing to recede.

Central Water Commission sources said the water level in most of the rivers was likely to fall further.

The state water resources department claimed that all the major embankments were safe.

Engineers were keeping round-the-clock vigil at places where swirling waters were putting pressure on the embankments, they said.

Nearly one million people were affected by the floods in the districts of Madhubani, Sitamarhi, Gopalganj, Muzaffarpur, Khagaria, Samastipur, Sheohar, Darbhanga and Begusarai.
