A blast occurred on Monday afternoon at a Central Ordinance Depot in Ranjhi, 13 km from Jabalpur.
Initial reports said the blast occurred at 12.30 pm followed by a small fire.
No casualties have been reported and there were no signs of fire outside the depot.
The reports said the fire was contained by 3.30 pm.
The army has refused to either confirm or deny the reports.
In 1988 there was a fire in the same depot. The inquiry report is still awaited.
