Ex-gratia of Rs 750,000 each
to kin of slain BSF men

Government on Thursday announced payment of an ex-gratia amount of Rs 750,000 to each of the families of the 16 BSF personnel killed recently at Boraibari outpost on the Indo-Bangladesh border.

Announcing this, a Union home ministry spokesman said the government has also decided to construct a memorial for the gallant BSF men, who laid down their lives in defending the borders of the country, at Frontier Headquarters, Shillong.

He said a memorial park will be created at Mankachar on the land, which Assam government has consented to provide.

He said the dependent of the killed jawans would continue to receive their last drawn salary till their retirement was due and added that BSF would provide employment to one member of the families of the martyrs.

The spokesman said the supreme sacrifices of the jawans 'is in true spirit' of BSF motto 'Duty unto death' and the nation will never forget their sacrifices.
