'Rejection of Jaya's nomination
proves law cannot be bent'

Former Union finance minister and Tamil Maanila Congress Democratic Forum founder P Chidambaram on Tuesday said the rejection of All India Anna DMK general secretary J Jayalalitha's nomination papers only proved that the law can not be bent.

Addressing an election meeting in support of DMK Front candidates in Madurai, he said AIADMK's expectations that the law could perhaps be bent, had been belied.

He asked the people to reject Jayalalitha "just as the law rejected her."

Stating that some people were harbouring hopes of Jayalalitha becoming chief minister even without contesting the election, he said: "This is not Bihar, but Tamil Nadu."

"The people should choose between a corrupt politician and a senior statesman," he added.
