Jaya's fate may be decided on Monday

The ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam on Sunday asked the Tamil Nadu police to take all steps to prevent any "untoward incident" on Monday, when the fate of the assembly nomination of All India Anna DMK chief Jayalalitha was likely to be decided.

In a letter to Director General of Police R Rajagopalan, DMK treasurer Arcot N Veerasamy, charged Jayalalitha with "indirectly" instigating her party cadres to indulge in violence during electioneering by stating that the DMK might fan trouble in case her nomination was rejected.

Referring to Jayalalitha's charge earlier in the day that the DMK was planning large-scale violence and then blame it on her party, Veerasamy dismissed it as a "concocted one."

Recalling the violence indulged in by AIADMK men, including the burning alive of three Tamil Nadu Agricultural University students in a bus in the wake of Jayalalitha's conviction in the Pleasant Stay Hotel case in February last, he alleged the AIADMK was planning to unleash violence with a view to disrupt the election process.

In this context, he asked the DGP, on behalf of the DMK, to take steps to maintain law and order.
