9 hurt in Bangla rocket attack

Bangladesh Rifles personnel Wednesday fired rockets at a village and Border Security Force outposts close to the Assam-Meghalaya-Bangladesh border, seriously wounding nine civilians in Assam's Dhubri district, prompting the authorities to sound a red alert.

The rockets were fired on Sahapara village in Mankachar sub-division, according to BSF sources.

Tension gripped the south Salamara area after the BDR, armed with rocket launchers, fired on the village and BSF outposts at Kokripara and Boraibari at 0500 hours IST, the sources said.

The firing was continuing till 2300 hours, they said.

Residents of nearby villages fled in panic, following the BDR shelling.

The injured were admitted to the Tura civil hospital, the sources said.
