Views:It's sad that the economy is in downturn, affecting the very many H1 holders working in the U.S. It's unimaginable for those seeking to stay permanently, and thus have acquired immovable properties etc. In fact, the prospect to many, of facing a related challenge to finding an IT job in India, since it too is mostly dependent on the U.S. market, must seem dampening their spirits. But U.S. is a country where the existing labor struggles hard to find decent jobs, and where one has to go through expensive education to make a decent living, comparable to that of an IT professional. Keeping this in mind, we should understand the dyanamics of this ever changing mrket space, now, and in the future, to better avail the opportunities and impending circumstances. Perception is the key here. It's no use blaming this great nation, America, that has doled out Billions of dollars to better the world economy&technology. The blame squarely lies with the "MIDDLEMEN", who are mostly Immigrant greencard holders, and who exploited the "TEMPORARY WORKER" to their last drop of blood. There were many instances where their greencard processes were deliberately delayed so these "MIDDLEMEN" can make more money. Always remember that a person is a Business themselves doing Business with others. They have to devise their own strategy for survival, in a decent and honest way. WISH YOU ALL THE VERY BEST! LET US HOPE THE ECONOMY RECUPERATES!

Logically if you see most of the H1B workers work as contractors with high billing rates comparred to the permamanent employees.Hence when there is a time for layoff naturally the Contractor(H1) guys get affected. Moreover, Clinton himself have admitted that "Indians have done more to America than the Americans".

Not that all would lose their jobs, not that the economy would never get back on track, not that we should cry for being hired and fired at will, not that we should be treated BETTER than most workers ...But just plain fact that America as people back home dream is not true in its entirety. How many people have told to friends and relatives back home that they bought a car within a couple of months of landing here but did not tell them that they have to pay $1000 for it monthly?.. How many of you have told that you were on bench getting $10-$25 dollars ( More?? ) a day and living in squalid conditions in the so called guest houses ( Now don't tell me you don't know what it means for people back home..Definitely something very great to live in correct ? )..How many of you have told that most cabbies , news paper vendors , motel workers who are here are illegal and non-american..Did you ever find an American selling a News Paper or managing a Gas station.. Come on America thrives on slavery in one form or the other..( Yes some would prefer this to nothing back home...But for God's sake tell this too ).. You would be surprised to find so many people slipping into America illegally..and they trace an Iraqi bird if it enters into their territory... How many of you have told that you have to PLAN to get ILL just because you would have to take an appointment from the doctor? I know people would sigh to even think of it..But if we are as responsible in India as we are in an alien country India has hopes.. How many of you would NOT pay taxes if the IRS shows some relaxation? EVERYBODY? Just because law in India is not yet in place and implemented we are getting away with not paying our taxes.. Yes I too am not sure how to stop corruption.. But can we dismiss our country to oblivion of cor

Views: The Slowdown in the US Economy has had one good thing the internet/dot com bubble has finally burst. At one time every second person wanted to join a startup and dreaming to be a millionaire overnight. Ofcourse the layoffs is very bad news and more so for H1 visa holders since they are foreigners and have only 10 days to leave the country once out of job (nobody seems to know the current law whether this is true). For Indians who constitued 60 % of the h1 quota in USA this really sucks. A positive outcome of all this is perhaps the best will probably survive and it will eliminate the mediocore. At one time every one back in India seemed to have been bitten by the software bug. For eg in Hyderabad there was IT training schools mushrooming in every nook and corner of the city. The joke was that even bus drivers, paan wallas in AP were jumping into the IT bandwagon and catching the next flight to San Jose. All those craze will hopefully end and hope that indian IT cos. get good business from other countries like Japan,Korea, Australia,Africa and ofcourse Europe instead of just concentrating in the USA.

We just need to reorganize ourselves, plan and implement the plans. I am sure we could come up with good competing technologies, software products abd business models and bolster our stand in the IT arena. Maybe the 'H1B fallout' could be the trigger we have been waiting for. India is famous for its cheap, skilled labour. It has happened since centuries. But the change can happen now. Lets make India the pioneer in the IT field. Let the next ten technology breakthrough happen in India. Let the next ten fortune 500 companies come from India. Let the next hundred innovators be from India. Let the next thousand achievers be from India. Let the lakhs of "H1B's" contribute the process. There are crores of Indians who can help. We can do it !!! Come on India dikha do ........ Regards SAM of Dal Chawal for Dil

Views:Here are the reasons why some H1-b workers are first to get laid off 1. Many of H1-b workers are contractors working through body-shop companies. These contracting companies charge the client at abnormal rate. (The h1-b worker sees very less of what he/she is earning). Cutting these contractors is a good choice. 2. Most of the H1-b contractors are fraud. They prepare fake resumes with false skill set and experience. Again, the consulting/contracting companies play a big role in preparing and passing the fake resumes. They are not worth continuing with, so the companies sack the incompetent H1-b workers. Is there any H1-b worker with good technical skills and who has contributed to the success of the company lost his/her job? This stock market slump is a blessing... all the idiots with fake resumes and degrees will go down. I wish this stock market slump and economic slow-down stay this way for another 6 months. The traffic constables from AP, bank clerks from UP who came here with fake resumes and degrees... start working in NJ gas stations. Good luck!

So, before taking job options here in US, they should have evaluated all the options and should have undersood the nature of job. They can not harp about putting the things onto perspective they are meant for. SO, if US economy does not need them they should better consider other option and plan to go to their mother land. India is a country of great potential. Go, turn the potential into opportunities. Do not sit here like losers, away from your near and dear ones, for the sake of few more dollars and fake social respectability. Awake to the reality and do not think of finding faults in US government. They are doing what they anyways made clear in rules of H1 B visas. So, its perfectly fair.

Views:Well what i think of the question "is it fair?" the answer is a big NO,but i donot deny the fact the companies are facing a critical times. But, the companies else than seeing the depression they are facing, they should also care about the persons who have worked for them. They talk of the ergonomics, what kindof impression could be setup in the minds of the persons who are still working in the company "Just a sense of insecurity".They don't know when they will be thrown outlike their fellow employees. Now,moreover the companies will try to supress the employees by this, not said but meant, that they should work or they will face the same circumstances the other are facing. Now,options left at this moment are very little; either they should wait for the depression to get a bit low OR they could move to india as the india is their own country and all the multinationals are here and not last to say that they pay a huge salary as compared to the indian standards. Atlast, I will just want to say that companies should "Look before they leap" . Today they are throwing their employees out of the job but later they may not find the persons for job especially the indians who contribute maximum in this part of the world in this industry.

Finally, I am on H-1 too. I know I cant put pressure on INS. I know I can be laid off. I try to manage my own risk and advice you all to do the same. Going back to India is not bad, its great. How can a person be in pain and in distress when he has to go back to his own country and own people, what can be the reasons ? Perhaps his spouse will leave him/her, perhaps his/her childrens will not be able to digest food and water, or perhaps thats the last country this so called high-tech software professional wants to go. Views:1. It is our own creation. People with medicore skills went to US as ERP, Web consultants and spoilt the whole thing for genuine candidates. As a community we are to be blamed. For falsifying the resumes and agreeing to work at the whims of Body Shoppers. 2. This reminds me of 1991-93 when the market was slow. Even US born citizens had tough time getting jobs. 3. In US nothing is permanent. Applies to Job, Hair, Girl Friend, Boy Friend. So take it easy Come back to India .We all will welcome with open arms.

Views:Hello All Please do not hold any grudges against me for telling my views frankly. Please do not bombard me with hate mail. But when we came her on H-1 Visa, was it ever promised to us that we will be here indefinitely. Did we not know that we are coming her to fill a void. Is it not a fact that a lot of H1 workers come on made up resumes with mushrooming 'consultancies' in Hyderabad, Banglore and Delhi aiding and abetting it. We were not promised that once you are here sooner or later we will get a green card, we assumed such things. And now when we are sent back when we are no longer needed, we are crying ourself hoarse that a promise was broken, that we were part of the great american dream and we are being cheated. Before doing that think that were we promised anything. By forming associations, by crying wolf we are pnly proving that our country is so bad that saam dhaam dand bhed , we will stay here. Cmon guys, if some of u r so keen on getting a green card then put in some real work, do a PhD from here and get it. But please do not spoil the name of the great land where you come from. Vikas

Views:I guess all you guys are missing the point. It is typical Indian mentality, give me the space to stand and I will make the space to sit myself. The basic H-1 is "Temporary Work Permit". Now, unless all you guys only understand Gujrati or Bengali or what ever language you grew up in. I don't know what you guys don't understand about the H1B. As 1 + 1 = 2, Temp means Temp. Work is done, so go home. If they wanted you as permanents, they would have issues you Green Cards (which is still done for a specific trade and through the lottery system). I guess maybe the agents were too busy in getting you guys on the plane with false documents and experience. Look, no one gets rid of good workers, even if they are on H1B. So get on with the program and go back and make your country great. If an Indian can come to the USA and create great names , then I do not understand why they cannot do the same in India. Change your political system, become a power to be dealt with within India and then you will not be looking at the USA as the great white hope. You fools don't understand, they are making and will continue to make billions on your shoulders. And if you continue with this , they will just become more powerful and you guys will always find India to be that 3rd world country that you guys are making it. Don't blame others when that happens.

Views:i really dont understand why some people r crying "ITS NOT FAIR". i dont think the u.s firms promised a job guarantee at any point of time. So its stupid to make such irrelevant statements. Its not obviously going to improve the situation. I think people should accept that every rose has a thorn and stop cribbing.

Views:My way of thinking is different. I would like to tell the employers that they can have their people with them and pay them limited amount, atleast to survive there in States. So that they will no feel depressed. This will also help their families. The people who had lived in riches, if all at once pushed to road will have many difficulties. The employers can give an option of this and if the employee wants to continue can be there else he/she can pack back to their home town. I hope they will have made enough money for their rest of life. This can also be followed in India rather than laying off people. Cut down on the other costs which are not really required. As everybody hopes this slow down will not be for long, do something to survive and once the market is set again everybody can lead the same life as before. Only thing any body(an employee) can do is to pray not to be an prey.

Views:Its sad to see that bright people who have toiled so hard and left their loved ones behind to follow their career path at all costs are today on the roads. i am not talking about those who have already made their money and were either due back or those who opted to get their green cards. I am talking of those that have gambled their lot on the technologies and their gurus thinking that nothing can go wrong where everything was so right. Their very dedication will be their nemisis. They dont have any other skills or ambitions and had probably not dreamt of any other vocation. The least that the U.S government could have done was save them the humiliation for a situation which was not of their doing. If they do not do anyhing for these fellas, i am sure that no one will again trust the U.S or willigly work so hard for its succuss H.Triloknath

Views:Indian software Professionals built the American software kingdom. They used our people as long as they get profits. This is the very unfortunate move taken the US based companies. They reacted vey quickly. What answer the US senate and US software companies lobby will give to unemployed Indian software professionals, who fought against the US government for more H1-B visas without foreseeing the things to come. One thing i would like to say is our people depend only on US without seeing other Europeon and Asian Nations. I hope things will Set right in short while. The is no need to to panic.
