American Desi stars to attend Bollywood Awards

J M Shenoy

To the formidable list of stars attending the 3rd annual Z Gold Bollywood Awards, add the lead players from the hit movie, American Desi.

Stars who will perform at the Bollywood Awards include Steven Seagal, Karisma Kapoor, Akshay Kumar, Tabu, Mahima Choudhury, Sonali Bendre, Saif Ali, Twinkle Khanna, Prabhudeva, the legendary Chaka Khan, Gulshan Grover, and Lucky Ali.

Now Deep Katdare, Sunita Param, Rizwan Manji, Ronobir Lahiri, and Aladdin, who became household names after the release of American Desi, will also add glamour to the event.

American Desi, which is soon to be released in United Kingdom and India, has grossed about $910,000 in five weeks in America. It was made for about $250,000.

In addition to the stars, director Piyush Dinker Pandya and producer Gitesh Pandya will also be there.

"We will be representing the new generation of Indian film-makers," says Piyush Dinker Pandya.

" We look forward to appearing with other movers and shakers at this year's spectacular Bollywood Awards," adds his brother Gitesh.

Though released by Eros, which has been showing till now only the masala movies from India, American Desi has caught the eyes of mainstream media.

Though The New York Times gave it a mostly negative review, Fox News called it "wonderful and charming with a winning cast" while the Wall Street Journal loved its "fresh energy and winning humour!" Even The New York Times admitted the film was amusing in places.
