Salman pleads not guilty to charges in poaching case

A local court on Friday framed charges against film star Salman Khan and others for poaching protected wild animals more than two years after they were booked for the offence.

Khan and all the other accused were present when the charges against them were read out in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Pramod Vashisht in two cases pertaining to the shooting of black bucks and a chinkara near Bhawad village in Jodhpur district in October 1998.

Pleading not guilty to the charges, the accused said they would contest the case.

The Bollywood actor was booked on charges of poaching protected animals and carrying illegal arms in October 1998 when he was shooting for Rajshri Production's Hum Saath Saath Hain here.

Khan remained behind bars for about a week before getting bail in the cases filed against him.

In another development, the Rajasthan high court accepted Khan's plea seeking a copy of the videocassette containing the statements of witnesses recorded by the forest officials.

Justice B J Sethna ordered the prosecution to provide a copy of the videocassette to the accused.
