Army stages flag march in violence-ridden Nasirabad

Kamla Bora in Jaipur

The Army staged a flag march in Nasirabad town in Ajmer district, where communal clashes left 12 injured on Wednesday.

Three of the injured, district authorities said, have been shifted to the Ajmer Medical College and Hospital in serious condition.

Violent skirmishes between two communities were also reported in Jaipur, Churu and Sikar districts on Muharram on Thursday.

Tazia processions could not be taken out in Hingonia in Jaipur district, Sujangarh in Churu district and Laxmangarh and Losal in Sikar district because of the tension, officials said.

Tension gripped sensitive Ramganj area in Jaipur city where Rapid Action Force was rushed to maintain law and order after some Tazia processionists clashed with the police.

Police fired 15 rounds in the air, burst tear gas shells and resorted to a mild lathi charge to disperse groups fighting pitched battles before clamping curfew in Nasirabad.

At least one person was injured in the police firing.

Disputes over the route to be taken by Tazia processions sparked trouble in most places.

The Rajasthan government has announced an inquiry into the Nasirabad violence by Ashok Jain, a Revenue Board member.
