Chhota Rajan shifted to Malaysia

E-Mail this report to a friend

Fearing for his security, fugitive gangster Rajendra Nikhalje, 'Chhota Rajan,' who survived Friday's attempt on his life in Bangkok, was flown to Malaysia on a chartered plane, with medical facilities and security, highly placed sources confirmed.

According to sources in Bangkok, the decision to shift Rajan, who is currently on oxygen support, was taken by his wife Sujata, fearing for his security.

The toll in the shootout has risen to six, including Rohit Verma, his wife Sarita, his two-year-old daughter, the watchman of his apartment, one of Rajan's bodyguards and a foreigner whose identity is yet to be confirmed. He was, supposedly, the bait (posing as a shipping tycoon) used by the Chhota Shakeel gang to lure Rajan and carry out their plan.

Shakeel had earlier admitted in an interview his involvement in the attempt to murder Rajan. The attack took place on Friday evening at 1930 IST at Verma's home at 26, Sukumig Soi in Bangkok.

Sources claimed Rajan is doing fine. He has already begun speaking to people and agreed to be shifted to Malaysia. Shakeel said earlier that his men are planning to make another attempt on Rajan's life in Bangkok.

Sources said Rajan was admitted to the intensive care unit at the Smitivej hospital in Bangkok with two bullets in his body. After being shot, he reportedly jumped from the first floor of the building where he was attacked, but fractured both his legs in the process.

Interpol and the Central Bureau of Investigation have been told to gather details about the incident. The Bombay police is also in touch with its counterparts in Bangkok through the external affairs ministry.
