Four top Hizb militants killed in encounter

E-Mail this report to a friend

The Border Security Force killed four top Hizbul Mujahideen militants and arrested three others in a fierce encounter at Tilsira in Badgam district on Tuesday afternoon.

Among those killed was Ghulam Mohammad Dar, a self-styled commander, who carried a reward of Rs 200,000 on his head, a BSF spokesman said.

Dar was responsible for recruiting men and sending them across the Line of Control to Pakistan for training. He was involved in several militant strikes in Jammu and Kashmir and had evaded arrest for over ten years.

The encounter took place during a search by a BSF team led by Commandant D S Dhaliwal.

Another BSF team arrested a militant, identified as Shamim Ahmad alias Dawood, in Gudsuthu village in Badgam district. Dawood had returned from Pakistan only recently after receiving training for two years, the spokesman said.

One AK-46 rifle, two magazines, 60 rounds of ammunition, one grenade and a wireless set were recovered from him.
