Five Border Security Force personnel were wounded in a militant attack on their picket, while the police apprehended a self-styled battalion commander of the Hizbul Mujahideen in Srinagar on Monday evening, an official spokesman has said.

Militants lobbed a grenade at a BSF picket at Batmaloo bus stand in central Srinagar, wounding five jawans, one of them seriously, he said.

In Kolipora area in downtown Srinagar, meanwhile, the Special Operations Group of the Jammu and Kashmir police arrested the Hizbul militant, identified as Abdul Majid Dar alias `Majja'.

The militant, hailing from Woongipora, area was involved in a number of militancy related incidents, he said, adding that a ballistic missile top and a rocket launcher were recovered from his possession.
