Four more persons with symptoms of liquor poisoning were admitted to the medical college hospital in Trivandrum on Monday taking the total number of hooch victims under treatment for failing eye sight, severe headache and vomiting to 55, hospital sources said.

The fresh cases were reported from Pattazhi in Kottarakara, Kalluvathukkal in Kollam and Kunnikode in Trivandrum, the sources said.

The hooch tragedy in Kerala has so far claimed 34 lives since its outbreak at Kollam on October 21.

Police said one Vijayakumar from Raj Nagar colony in Delhi, who was admitted to the hospital for hooch poisoning, allegedly tried to flee the hospital by jumping from the second floor of the building and broke his legs in the process and was readmitted.

Meanwhile, the bar at hotel Chaitram (run by Kerala Tourism Development Corportion) in Trivandrum was closed following reports that a person developed symptoms of liquor poison after consuming a few pegs of Indian Made Foreign Liquor from the bar.
