Seventy Christians reconvert to Hinduism in Orissa

About 70 members of 12 tribal Christian families have formally reconverted to Hinduism at Khandibara village Nawrangpur district in Orissa, district Superintendent of Police, Ghanashyam Parida said on Tuesday.

Parida said the tribals, who had earlier embraced Christianity, had virtually returned to the Hindu fold about a decade ago.

Last Sunday, they were formally reconverted to Hinduism at a function held in the village, which was attended by some local Vishwa Hindu Parishad leaders, Parida said.

He said these tribal families had not given any prior intimation to the district collector regarding their reconversion.

The district authorities had already submitted a report to the state government in this regard, he said.
