AP school headmaster
suspended for sex scam

Syed Amin Jafri in Hyderabad

The district administration on Friday suspended a headmaster in connection with a sex scandal in a residential ashram school for girls in Vishakapatnam district.

According to reports reaching the state headquarters, the suspension of Sriramulu was ordered following a preliminary probe that revealed sexual abuse of several tribals at the school. Though initial reports indicated that six minors were seduced and made pregnant by the headmaster and teachers, a preliminary enquiry by officials found that a standard VIII girl was three months pregnant.

Tribal Welfare Minister M Mani Kumari went to the school at Jamiguda village in Dumbriguda mandal, about 8 km from Araku town, and assured agitated parents and relatives that action would be taken against the culprits. The parents gheraoed the headmaster and other staff, demanding punishment against them.

Vishakapatnam district joint collector M T Krishna Babu has begun an enquiry into the incident. The district administration will send a gynaecologist to the school to examine the girls.

The pregnant girl told the joint collector that the watchman came to her hostel room during the Daserra vacation and created a scene when she refused to accompany him to the headmaster's rented room near Araku town.

The other girls, who were seduced and subjected to sexual abuse, were allegedly harassed by the headmaster. The hostel matron, cook and watchman were allegedly abettors. The police have registered a case and begun investigations.

Paderu Integrated Tribal Development Agency project director Venkatrama Reddy and district medical and health officer Iftekhar Ahmed are also probing the case.
