Bombay police team leaves for Bangkok

The team comprising Assistant Commissioner of Police Shankar Kamble, Inspector Sudhakar Pujari and Sub-Inspector Hemant Desai, will interrogate Rajan who is wanted by the Bombay police in about 17 cases of crime in the city, highly placed police sources confirmed.

The team was to depart on Sunday itself but could not proceed as it was awaiting permission from the Ministry of External Affairs. The three member team will also collect details of the shootout on the night of September 15 at the residence of Rajan's close associate Rohit Verma alias Michael D'Souza in which Rohit was killed while Rajan and Rohit's wife were injured.

Rajan is currently in a local hospital in Bangkok under heavy security.

On Tuesday, a local court released him on bail of 500 baht. He was accused of furnishing false information while applying for a business visa.

Thai authorities gave three days to the Indian government to make a formal request to extradite Chhota Rajan after which he was free to go wherever he wanted. The three-day deadline ends on Thursday morning.
