I-T notices to Laloo Yadav, others

The Income Tax authorities have issued tax demand notices for recovery of Rs 11,000 million from nearly 40 accused of the multi-crore fodder and bitumen scams, including the Rashtriya Janata Dal president Laloo Prasad Yadav, IT sources said Tuesday.

The department has, however, spared Chief Minister Rabri Devi against whom a disproportionate assets case is pending in a court.

Others who have been issued tax demand notices include former chief ninister Jagannath Mishra, former road construction minister Illiyas Hussain, Urban Development Minister Srinarayan Yadav, RJD MLA R K Rana, former BJP MLA Dhruv Bhagat and former animal husbandry minister Vidyasagar Nishad.

Notices for recovery have also been issued to a number of suppliers and officials of the Animal Husbandry Department.

Of the total amount sought to be recovered by the I-T department, Rs 10,065 million relates to the fodder scam and Rs 300 million to the bitumen scam.

The I-T department has already impounded immovable property of about 130 accused in the two scams.
