Marandi wins trust vote

Our correspondent in Ranchi

The Babulal Marandi government won a trust vote by 44-34 on Thursday evening.

While the Bharatiya Janata Party, Samata, National Democratic Alliance and four Independent legislators voted in favour of the government, the Congress, Rashtriya Janata Dal, Jarkhand Mukti Morcha, Communist Party of India, Communist Party of India-Marxist and Marxist Coordination Committee members voted against it.

The victory came after a day-long debate in the Jharkhand state assembly.

The Opposition conceded defeat and is instead training its guns against Governor Prabhat Kumar. They have demanded his immediate removal as he has been charge-sheeted in the Babri Masjid demolition case. He was then chief secretary in Uttar Pradesh.
