CBI files chargesheet
against Haryana DGP: PTI

The Central Bureau of Investigation Friday filed a chargesheet against Director General of Haryana Police S P S Rathore for alleged molestation of a girl, which led to her suicide, agency sources said in New Delhi.

The CBI filed the chargesheet in the special court of A K Tyagi of Ambala and charged Rathore with outraging the modesty of the girl under Section 354, the sources said.

The CBI had filed an FIR in the case following directions from the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Rathore filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the orders of the high court which was, however, rejected by the apex court.

According to the investigations, Rathore, who was thethen IGP of Haryana and president of the State Lawn Tennis Association, had called the trainee player to the association office on August 12,1990.

She came to the office along with a friend. While her friend was asked to leave the office, Rathore is alleged to have outraged the modesty of the 14-year-old girl.

She recorded her statement with the state police and her mother met then chief minister Hukum Singh, who ordered an enquiry by then state police chief R R Singh.

Singh recommended registering a case against Rathore, which was endorsed by the state home secretary.

The case was delayed after the Haryana law department said that no case could be made out.

This led to the girl committing suicide on December 29, 1993, the agency alleged.

A petition was filed in the Punjab and Haryana High Court in 1997 and the court ordered a CBI probe.
