Bangalore celebrates Rajakumar's release

M D Riti in Bangalore

As news of Dr Rajakumar's release spread in Bangalore on Wednesday, cars of enthusiastic fans shouting "Rajakumarige Jai!" and sporting red and yellow flags began careening through the city's busy thoroughfares and through the posh residential locality of Rajamahal Vilas, in which the star lives.

Shops and schools are already closing in some areas fearing the exuberance of ecstatic rowdy fans. Many had taken the precaution of putting up posters of Rajakumar on all their window panes since the last two months, after their glasses were broken when the actor was abducted.

Rajakumar's family physician Dr B Ramana Rao is closeted with the family since morning.

Rajakumar's family members have mostly switched off their cell phones or are declining calls. His fans' association president S R Govindu, who was to go online with rediff.com at 1 pm on Wednesday cancelled at 11 am after news of the release came. "There is trouble starting everywhere," he said. "I should be free to keep it under control. I may have to travel to the border too."

Well-wishers and friends of the Rajakumar family are already flocking to his residence in Sadashivanagar.
