NHRC seeks Centre's response
to Lone's visa application

Lone had filed an application before the NHRC requesting it to direct the Union government to grant him travel documents to enable him to visit Pakistan to attend his son's wedding with Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front leader Amanullah Khan's daughter on November 19.

NHRC sources said on Tuesday that an earlier petition of Lone was considered but filed by the NHRC only on November 8 as ample time was then available for the government to take a decision on his application for permission to travel to Pakistan.

Lone has filed for the same relief again stating that only a few days were left for his son's wedding and the government has not yet conveyed its decision.

The Commission noted that media reports suggested the government was likely to permit the petitioner to travel to Pakistan.

However, in view of the urgency, the Commission has issued the notice asking the government's response latest by November 16 indicating therein categorically its decision on the petitioner's application, the sources said.
