Opposition to boycott Bihar
assembly's special session

The National Democratic Alliance has decided to boycott the special session of the Bihar assembly on Thursday. It was called to bid farewell to 82 legislators belonging to Jharkhand.

The NDA legislators, led by Leader of the Opposition Sushil Kumar Modi of the BJP, had boycotted the session for a brief period on the first day on Wednesday. After the end of the first day's session, NDA legislators decided to boycott the remaining two days of the three-day special session.

The opposition members were protesting against the clubbing of financial business with the farewell ceremony, which they plan to attend. They argued that no financial business should been included in what had been termed as merely a farewell session.

Modi sought the extension of this session by a week and inclusion of Zero Hour, Question-Answer session and Calling Attention Motions without which, he said, the House proceedings were meaningless.

He told rediff.com that he would be sitting on a dharna outside the assembly on Thursday to press his demands.

Communist Party of India and CPI (Marxist-Leninist) legislators also said they would boycott the session.

However, Bihar Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ram Chandra Purbey cited examples of how financial business was clubbed with the farewell session in Madhya Pradesh recently and even in case of other states in the past.
