Bihar assembly's special session commences

Soroor Ahmed in Patna

The three day special session of the Bihar assembly to bid good-bye to 82 members of Jharkhand began on Wednesday morning. The new state will have 81 elected members.

One nominated Anglo Indian legislator of the Bihar assembly will also go to Jharkhand raising the total strength of the House to 82.

The Bihar government would be presenting a shawl, a brief case and momento to each of them and Chief Minister Rabri Devi will host a dinner for them on the last day of the session.

While the farewell ritual is likely to be confined to the last day, that is November 10, the second supplementary budget is likely to be placed before the assembly and report of the Public Accounts Committee tabled in the first two days.

The special feature about this session is that there would be no question-answer session.

Leader of Opposition in the state assembly Sushil Kumar Modi objected to the non-inclusion of the question-answer session arguing that since the farewell ceremony is confined to the last day the House could function normally for the first two days.

The opposition is expected try to raise the issues of the killing of Lohardagga Superintendent of Police Ajay Kumar Singh, the agitation by the Bihar Administrative Service Association and the 100-day-old strike by 16,000 college and university teachers.
