Jharkhand CM issue:
Soren meets Laloo Yadav

By Our Correspondent in Patna

Jharkhand Mukti Morcha chief Shibu Soren met Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Laloo Prasad Yadav to enlist his support to form the first government in the newly created state of Jharkhand.

Soren did not tell waiting newspersons what transpired in the hour-long meeting. However, he made it clear that there was no way the JMM would re-join the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance after it refused to make him the chief minister of Jharkhand.

About JMM Rajya Sabha member R K Anand's statement that talks were on with the NDA to bring about a rapprochement, Soren shot back saying that he, not Anand, was the party chief.

While the NDA has 40 legislators in its fold:- BJP-32, Samata Party-5 and Janata Dal (U)-3, Soren claims to enjoy the support of 40 legislators in a House of 81.

On Monday, the BJP announced that Babulal Marandi would be its chief ministerial candidate.

So far, the Congress, which has 11 legislators, has not decided its course of action.
