Lenin Hall ransacked in Jharkhand

Soroor Ahmed in Patna

Lenin Hall, the proposed assembly of the new Jharkhand state in Ranchi, was ransacked, allegedly by supporters of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, on Friday.

Several windowpanes were damaged and repair work had to be stopped.

The JMM has been protesting against wasteful expenditure on restructuring Lenin Hall when Audrey Hall could have served. The party had earlier organised a two-day protest.

The party leaders argued that if the Jharkhand Area Autonomous Council could run from Audrey Hall, it could temporarily house the state assembly. The party charged vested interests with minting money in the name of giving a new look to Lenin Hall.

The JMM denied that its supporters were involved in Friday's attack and accused contractors of damaging the windowpanes.

Lenin Hall belongs to the virtually sick public sector undertaking, Heavy Engineering Corporation, and has been taken on rent.
