JMM legislature party may split

Soroor Ahmed in Patna

The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha will take a decision regarding withdrawal of support to the National Democratic Alliance on Thursday.

The meeting of party legislators, held late on Wednesday night at the residence of party MLA Hussain Ansari, continued till the wee hours of Thursday, but did not arrive at any conclusion.

JMM leader Shibu Soren, who arrived from Bokaro late on Wednesday night, reiterated his old demand of nothing less than the chief minister's post as promised by the NDA on the formation of its still-born government in Bihar in March.

Soren is likely to meet the Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Laloo Yadav later in the day to chalk out the future course of action. "Today I am with the NDA but tomorrow I may meet Laloo and thrash out the formation of a new, non-BJP, secular government," he had said on Wednesday.

Interestingly, only seven out of the JMM's 12 MLAs attended the meeting at Ansari's residence, and there is a possibility that the JMM legislature party may split, with a faction choosing to remain with the NDA.
