Lankan defence chief in India to discuss war: AFP

Sri Lanka's defence chief General Rohan De Silva Daluvatte is in India on a four-day visit to discuss the war between Tamil Tiger rebels and government troops in the island.

Officials have been quoted as saying that Daluvatte arrived in Madras on Wednesday, where he was received by Major General S P Kapur.

Daluvatte later left for Bangalore where he reportedly held discussions with top Indian defence personnel.

The visit, which was not confirmed by the Indian foreign and defence ministries or the Sri Lankan high commission, comes as Sri Lankan troops struggle to prevent the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam from recapturing the Jaffna peninsula.

India has ruled out any military assistance for the beleaguered Sri Lankan troops but defence experts have been quoted as saying that logistical support could be under discussion.
