Trinamul opposes Gujarat order on RSS, but won't vote against govt

E-Mail this report to a friend

The Trinamul Congress today made it clear that it was opposed to the circular issued by the Gujarat government allowing its employees to participate in RSS activities but would support the Vajpayee government, if the issue was pressed to be discussed under Rule 184 in the Lok Sabha.

The Trinamul Congress, which participated in the NDA meeting chaired by Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in New Delhi during the day, also is of the view that since the discussion on the issue had been admitted and taken up in the house under Rule 193, it should be allowed to be continued.

Senior leaders such as former home minister Indrajit Gupta and Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav had given notices on discussion on the subject under Rule 193, and it had even been initiated. "Now, why are they demanding discussion under Rule 184?" Trinamul Congress leader Sudip Bandyopadhyay said after attending the meeting.

The party was of the view that the leader of the house (Vajpayee) should take an initiative in resolving the impasse over the issue in the house, he added.
