JMM-Soren likely to join Nitish Kumar's govt

E-Mail this report to a friend

The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha-Soren is likely to join the new government in Bihar.

The JMM-Soren is learnt to have bargained for at least four berths in the new ministry, besides an assurance on statehood in return for extending the support of its 12 legislators to the Nitish Kumar led National Democratic Alliance government.

The party, which had announced before the polls to maintain equidistance from both the Rashtriya Janata Dal and the NDA, has extended it support to the NDA ''on the issue of statehood''.

The possibility of its getting a berth in the central cabinet is also not being ruled out.

The Jharkhand Peoples Party combine, which had also extended support to the NDA, claimed that the new government in Bihar had promised to initiate steps at the earliest for withdrawing all cases against AJSU activists registered during the movement for a separate state.

AJSU chief Vimal Kacchap said his combine had been promised by Kumar that the region's demand of a separate state would be realised within three months. He said his party was not interested in joining the government.
