Sharat Pradhan in Lucknow

A suspected ISI agent, arrested by the Uttar Pradesh police, has confessed to his direct involvement in a conspiracy being hatched in Bombay to bump off film-maker Subhash Ghai.

Uttar Pradesh's Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Gyaneshwar Jha told rediff.com, "The agent, Naushad, was closely associated with the Dubai-based Abu Salem gang and was directly involved with the sensational murder of T-series owner Gulshan Kumar."

Naushad was arrested at Barhni, a notorious town on the Indo-Nepal border in Siddhartha Nagar district of eastern Uttar Pradesh. "We have duly informed the Bombay police," Jha said. They were expected to arrive in Lucknow.

Naushad admitted to regular contact with Abu Salem. According to Jha, "The recovery of a bunch of fake 500-rupee notes indicated Naushad's involvement in the counterfeit currency racket too." It is believed that at one point, Naushad was associated with the Nepal-based ISI agent Mirza Dilshad Beg, who was killed.

The police have found incriminating evidence about his connections with some dreaded criminals and terrorist outfits in Pakistan.
